Romeo + Juliet Chorus

Two households, both alike in dignity,
In fair Verona, where we lay our scene,

-Two families, the Montagues and the Capulets, both alike in dignity. Dignity meaning 

the quality of being worthy of honor and respect. 

In the beautiful city Verona where this scene is.

From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,
Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean

- An old feud breaks out into a new brutality,

And hands are covered in the blood of their own people

From forth the fatal loins of these two foes
A pair of star-cross'd lovers take their life;

-Children from the two rival families can't be together but do so anyways and commit suicide

Whose misadventured piteous overthrows
Do with their death bury their parents' strife.

- Whose sad deaths put an end to the dispute between their families

The fearful passage of their death-mark'd love,

-The frightening passing of their love

And the continuance of their parents' rage,
Which, but their children's end, nought could remove,

-And their parents hatred for each other could not be stopped except by the deaths of their children

Is now the two hours' traffic of our stage;
The which if you with patient ears attend,
What here shall miss, our toil shall strive to mend.

-In the two hours of the play, if you listen carefully, you will see what was left out of how they tried to fix the problem
